Many our clients, who are not (folkbokförd) in Sweden are asking, whether they can get medical treatment on the same conditions as Swedish residents/citizens.
The answer is yes, however some paperwork must be done first. Below you can find an explanation that was originally published (in Swedish) on the webpage of Försäkringskassan (Swedish social security agency) and can be found here (in Swedish).
The one, who originally comes from EU/EES countries or Switzerland and are eller från Schweiz och är insured but not registered (folkbokförd) in Sweden, can get medical treatment on the same conditions as Swedish residents/citizens.
In order to get medical treatment on the same conditions as Swedish residents/citizens, one needs to get a Certification of being resident in Sweden (Intyg om bosättning i Sverige). When one needs medical treatment one is simply showing up this Certification for a medical doctor or in other place for medical treatment.
How one gets a certification of being resident in Sweden?
In order to get a certification of being resident in Sweden one should
- come from EU/EES countries or Switzerland
- not be able to get a registration (folkbokföring) in Sweden
- have a social insurance in Sweden
- have moved to Sweden.
How one applies for a certification of being resident in Sweden?
One should simply send a refusal from Skatteverket together with a short note that you want to get a Certification that you are resident in Sweden (Intyg om bosättning i Sverige). These two documents should be sent to Försäkringskassan (Swedish social security agency) under the following adress: Försäkringskassans Inläsningscentral, 839 88 Östersund.
